The Private Police Industry: Its Nature and Extent is a 1971 report prepared by James S. Kakalik and Sorrel Wildhorn of the Rand Corporation for the Department of Justice, describing what the private security industry looked like at the time. This can be important for context, as 1971 is almost as far away in time to a student from today as Charlie Siringo's Pinkerton stories of the 1910s would have been to a student in 1971.
