Law Enforcement Liaison Community

Ernie Van der Leest is a diverse and seasoned law enforcement and security professional having worked in law enforcement for 28+ years in various roles ranging from patrol, Field Training Officer, SWAT/Sniper, highway interdiction/K9, narcotics, criminal investigations, and digital forensics. Since retiring from law enforcement, Ernie has worked as a private investigator in both the criminal and civil court system as well as security management for a construction company and a large hospital. His last role was Director of Safety and Security at the McAllen Medical Center located on the US/Mexican border where he has obtained a vast amount of experience dealing with migrant issues. Ernie has a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a Masters of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management. Ernie is a proud ASIS member and has earned the CPP designation, is a steering committee member of the ASIS Investigations Community, and is a member of the Austin local chapter of ASIS.
