Akmal Ali
Akmal Ali is the former Deputy Director of the SAFETY Act Office within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where helped oversee the growth of the SAFETY Act program. During his time, he helped DHS craft the process by the department reviews SAFETY Act applications for venue security programs. Today, Akmal is the founder and CEO of Aluma, a risk management and security consulting firm based in the Washington D.C. area that, among other things, helps venue operators pursue SAFETY Act protections.

James Johnston
James brings over 15 years of professional experience in security, large events, and facility operations management. He has led large and small security departments through periods of accelerated growth and in 2016, he co-founded Continuum Preparedness where he works with clients around the country on their safety, security, and emergency management programs. He has worked with teams from every major sports league and has created dozens of security programs from scratch in the past few years. James resides in Champaign, Illinois and is a member of the HET Steering Committee.
