On April 30, 2024, the White House released National Security Memorandum-22 Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience. This replaces PPD-21 from 2013.

The National Security Memorandum on Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience (NSM-22) outlines the U.S. government's approach to enhance the security and resilience of critical infrastructure. Key principles include shared responsibility across government and private sectors, a risk-based approach to prioritize efforts, establishing minimum requirements for risk management, accountability mechanisms, and effective information exchange. It also emphasizes leveraging expertise and international cooperation to secure infrastructure that is vital for national security, economic stability, and public safety. The memorandum encourages a coordinated national effort to manage sector-specific and cross-sector risks, aiming to strengthen infrastructure against both physical and cyber threats.
