In recent years, the Department of Climate and Safety in Denver Public Schools has made significant strides in enhancing student safety by implementing advanced AI systems. These technologies were designed to monitor student communications for concerning language and analyze surveillance feeds for potential threats, such as weapons detection. The AI systems can identify trigger words associated with grave issues, including gun violence, dating violence, firearms, and explosives. When such language is flagged, alerts are sent to dispatchers who assess the situation and notify the appropriate school administrators and law enforcement.
