ASIS Pharmaceutical Security Community Virtual Event - May 2024
Description: It's widely acknowledged that criminals often establish or infiltrate legitimate companies for money laundering or to conduct illicit activities or fraud against other companies or public authorities. The pharmaceutical sector is no exception. For instance, findings from the MEDI-THEFT project (and other recent cases) highlight the extensive use of shell companies to steal medicines or falsify documentation to reintroduce stolen products into the legal supply chain. This underscores the critical need to carefully monitor and assess the risks associated with collaborating with third parties. Università Cattolica-Transcrime and its spin-off Crime&tech have developed specific tools to facilitate a comprehensive assessment of third parties. These tools rely on a wide range of risk indicators that integrate various information relevant to different risk dimensions (e.g., territory, sector, financials, ownership, etc.). Developed in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, authorities, and private companies, these tool and indicators have been tested in operational scenarios across several projects in the EU and worldwide. In this presentation, Marco Dugato and Antonio Bosisio will introduce the tool and discuss its added value for both private companies and public bodies.
