Recap: Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events
In this important session, we explored how civilians can effectively respond during active shooter or mass attack incidents—particularly in the critical moments before law enforcement arrives. While public safety professionals play a vital role, research shows that many of these events unfold and conclude within minutes, making immediate civilian action essential.
Participants were introduced to practical, pre-planned response strategies designed to increase personal safety and improve outcomes in high-risk situations. The course emphasized situational awareness, rapid decision-making, and the importance of having a clear plan in place.
Developed in collaboration with the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) program, this training equips individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to respond decisively and potentially save lives during an active attack.
