  • August Meeting

    Please make plans to join the School Safety and Security Community for our August meeting. The meeting will take place on Thursday, August 19th from 11:00AM Eastern Time until Noon Eastern Time. 

    Our speaker for this month will be Art Hushen, President of the National Institute of Crime Prevention. Art's topic will be CPTED in the school environment. With increased emphasis on school safety, it seems CPTED strategies are sometimes lost in the high-tech terminology of security and construction.  The learning environment has always been a key element when applying CPTED strategies to school safety and design. To create that safe learning environment, we can refer to Criminologist C. Ray Jefferies (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design CPTED, 1971) who contended “the way to prevent crime is to design the total environment.”
