About the Presenter
Mr. Andy Griffiths, newly appointed Regional Security Director Europe for a European based manufacturing company called Firmenich UK. Before joining Firmenich, Andy worked for Mondelez International as Head of Supply Chain Security for Europe. Andy has over 30 years’ experience in various law enforcement and security roles, specializing in supply chain logistics and transportation.
Description
Andy will talk about the threat posed by ‘bogus operators’ in the supply chain and in particular some of the challenges faced by industry investigators and law enforcement alike. Supply chains are increasingly influenced by driver shortages, reductions in truck capacity and increased volumes and cost. This disruption is playing directly into the hands of organized crime which operate in exactly the same way as any legitimate enterprise, they are extremely entrepreneurial, opportunistic, and, of course, are motivated by financial gain. The significant growth in recent years in the number of cargo thefts linked to bogus transport companies is being driven by what crime groups perceive as low risk/high reward activities, aided by technology which is making it easier for offenders to operate online while continuing to ‘hide in the shadows’.
