Dear GTPIIC Community Members,
First off, a huge thank you to everyone who has signed up to be part of this community. We are already over 200 strong.
As we transition from a council to community, I want to provide an update on how we see things working in the future.
Our community is growing faster than our transition speed at present. This is both great news and shows expectations are high. We hope that each of you will become engaged in helping us both grow and enrich the community, as well as our profession.
We ask for your patience during this transition as we all have a lot to learn in a short time.
Below are a few items to get us started.
We are now the Global Terrorism, Political Instability and International Crime Community. The former council is disbanded. All members of the previous council are now members of the community.
This community is open to any ASIS members wishing to get involved. Make no mistake, we want you involved and our expectations of you will also be high.
A foundational principle this community will be the "need to share" rather than "the need to know". We have experienced people from all over the world. The more we share, the more we learn. The more we learn, the stronger we are.
The Basic Structure of the Community will be:
- The Leadership Team,
- The Steering Committee (The only standing Committee), and
- The Community at large.
The general flow of the Community will function something like this:
Leadership Team meets Monthly to review, discuss and/or approve project proposals and other issues,
Steering Committee (Led by Community Vice Chairs and Secretary) will meet at least each two months,
- Each project will be assigned under the broad oversight of one of three co-Vice Chairs,
- Any Community Member leading a current project will be a Member of the Steering Committee,
- Membership of the Steering Committee is not permanent. Project leads are assigned for the duration of a project,
- Vice Chairs can form Working Groups within the Committee as necessary from other Community Members.
Community At Large:
- Open Community calls will be held quarterly, (NOTE: We anticipate the first call to occur in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2020.)
- Each call we be in a Zoom “Webinar” format with community member engagement,
- Steering Committee will determine presentation schedule based on project deliverables,
- These presentations will be in a panel discussion/presentation and Q&A format, to discuss with community how that project improves/affects the security profession,
- Secretary will moderate discussions by fielding questions from community members and posting them to panelists presenting,
- Calls will end with a few minutes of idea generation questions to community to spur new projects.
The Secretary will also run communications for the Community.
All completed projects will be publicized on various forms of social media.
All Community Members are encouraged to use ASIS Connects to promote and discuss ideas.
Project Proposals
- We want to encourage all community members to develop project ideas and solutions.
- The Secretary will publish our project submission proposal documents in the next few days.
- Projects will be reviewed and approved by the leadership team and should map to the mission of the community.
Look out for additional announcement soon on project submission formats and other good stuff, from our communications team.
I look forward to getting to know you better and understanding your needs of the community in the near future.
In the meantime, please keep up the activity on the discussion boards and support each other.
